October 12, 2015: Latest Astrological News

Maya Animation 10 pictures c♦ On October 9 check out the alignment of the waning Moon to Venus in the early morning easterly sky, both these feminine celestial bodies entering Virgo on the same day. This will not be just any round of the mill conjunction but an occultation, meaning that the Moon will appear to swallow bright Venus. Hopefully the clouds will clear in our region before this special event! Visit the October Star over Wollumbin page for more details.

♦ Transiting Venus is joining Jupiter and Mars in Virgo on October 9, at 4.29 am (Eastern Australia Summer Time). There is a hope that the gentler touch of Venus may curb some of the hard edges of current Mars’ Transits. Mars has in fact made the international situation even more challenging, introducing risk elements that weren’t present before, manifesting in more man-made and natural disasters. If interested please visit may post on the transits of Mars in Virgo HERE. We should not forget however that Venus is in her Morning Phase, more inclined toward confrontations than to embrace peace and dialogue. For the effect of Venus Morning please navigate to my recent post ‘ Welcome Venus Morning Star’, HERE.

I repeat here the dates of Mars and Venus’ major transits while in Virgo:

September 26 = Mars square Saturn

October 7 = Mars in opposition Neptune (Putin’s birthday)

October 16 =Mars trine Pluto

October 18 =Mars conjunct Jupiter

October 23 =Mars in opposition to Chiron

November 13 =Mars conjunct Lunar North Node

Venus follows suit with the same transits on different dates:

October 11 = Venus square Saturn

October 17 = Venus in opposition to Neptune

October 23 = Venus trine Pluto

October 26 = Venus conjunct Jupiter

October 28 = Venus in opposition to Chiron

November 3 = Venus conjunct Mars

♦ A ‘Super-Moon’ Total Lunar Eclipse in the Sign of Aries took place on September 28, at 12.50  pm (Australian Eastern Standard Time), but unfortunately it wasn’t visible from anywhere in Australia or Eastern Asia, not even as a partial view.

The United States, Canada and South America had the  front rows for this event, roughly from moon-rise (at sunset) to midnight. Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Western Asia viewed the eclipse in the early hours of the morning instead, before sunrise.

This is a special eclipse because the Moon is at Perigee (closest to Earth for the whole year) and the event is the fourth and last of a series of Lunar Total Eclipses, called a Tetrad, that occurred in autumn and spring between 2014 and 2015. Here are the Signs occupied by the totally eclipsed Moons, with their dates:

♥ April 15 2014, Libra Moon

♥ October 8 2014, Aries Moon

♥ April 4 2015, Libra Moon

♥ September 28 2015, Aries Moon

Stay tuned for my thoughts on this latest Eclipse, whose effects could last well into the next eclipse season, in March-April 2016, and beyond.

Mars in Virgo. Mars entered Earthy Virgo on September 25, and will be transiting Virgo until November 13 when he will move into Airy Libra.
People with Virgo highlighted in their Birth Chart will be feeling more restless and impatient, ready for action but also prone to make mistakes if they rush into things without planning.  Much could be accomplished during this period, with the potential to finally tackle jobs or projects that have been left in the drawer for a while. By all means take advantage of this transit’s abundant energy, but try not to overdue it or your health and peace of mind may be adversely affected. Your keen critical sense may become even sharper, so take care not to become more disparaging and nit-picking that you normally are. Pluck your courage to assert yourself and you could see quick return for your efforts.

♦ On September 17 Mercury began its Retrograde period that will last until October 9 2015, from the middle back to the beginning of Libra. Mercury, now an Evening Star, will conjunct the Sun on October 1 (Inferior Conjunction), and afterword return to the morning sky. Click here for my post on the September-October Retrogradation of Mercury. And here for a recent post on the meaning of Retrogradation, focusing mainly on Mercury.

♦ The September New Moon was also a Partial Solar Eclipse on the 20th degree of Virgo. The Solar Eclipse will be followed by a Total Lunar Eclipse at the next Aries Full Moon (04° 40′), on September 28 2015. If interested please read my recent post on this Virgo Solar Eclipse here. And two tutorials on Eclipses that I’ve also re-posted recently: Eclipses as Doors of Perception – part 1 and Eclipses as Doors of Perception – part 2.

♦ The Sun entered Libra on September 23, 6.20 pm. This is the Spring Equinox in our southern parts and Autumn Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere.

♦ Jupiter entered the Earth Sign of Virgo on August 11 at 9.11 pm local time. Jupiter will transit Virgo until September 9 2016, when he will enter Libra.

Jupiter also reached the opposition to Neptune in Pisces on September 17.

Saturn turned Stationary Direct on August 2, on the 28th degree of Scorpio. Saturn has re-entered Sagittarius, in direct motion, on September 18 2015.

Venus turned Stationary Retrograde on July 24, on the first degree of Virgo. Venus re-entered Leo, in retro motion, on August 1 and was retrograde until September 7, re-entering Virgo, in direct motion, only on October 9, a very lengthy Venus in Leo Transit.

In the pipeline is a post on Saturn in Sagittarius and Jupiter in Virgo, their coming and going square aspect punctuating the next nine months, with the risk of a global economic downturn very present, recession continuing in some countries and even food shortages worsening in less developed countries. A lesson in humility and make do, living within our means in the developed countries so to restore some balance to our lop-sided world. Stay tuned.

Focus on Sagittarius, Mercury and Mars

*******

While Mercury powers ahead into Sagittarius from November 9 to December 1, Venus has been slowly retracing her steps into Libra since November 8. Our close neighbours have thus both left Scorpio around the same time. They have entered, one in direct motion, the other in retrogradation, the Signs preceding and following Scorpio, Yang assertive Signs, less emotional and also less fixed than Scorpio, therefore less inclined to get stuck into sticky emotional issues or power struggles.

Mercury will spend longer than usual in Sagittarius, due to retrogradation. It will become Stationary Retrograde on 5/6 degrees Capricorn, on December 10, re-enter Sagittarius in retro motion on December 19 and leave this Sign only on January 13, 2011. Mercury’s retro period will end on December 30, on the 19th degree of Sagittarius.

Mars has also entered Sagittarius on October 28 and will leave this Sign on December 8.

A lot of focus is on Sagittarius at the moment, a boost of energy and a more eventful time for Sagittarius, of course, but also the other Fire Signs, Aries and Leo, and the Mutable Signs, Gemini, Virgo and Pisces; and anyone in whose Charts these same Signs are alighted by the presence of the Moon, the Ascendant or the visible planets (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn).

Collectively the fact that the Moon is now waxing, that Venus and Saturn are now Morning Stars, Mercury-Mars are transiting a Fire Sign, and Jupiter-Venus are close to the end of their retro period (both becoming Stationary Direct on November 19) are all symbols of a more active and confident period for many people, when initiative will pay off and goal oriented activities can be more successful. We can all feel more expansive and generous, more free of the shackles of convention. Braving the storms of life is natural to Sagittarius, after exploring the depth of Scorpio, if the exploration has unearthed the wealth of self-knowledge. That self-knowledge can now entitle us to move into a wider world, to participate in life with renewed optimism and hope.

It could be a great time to travel or to seek less personal outlooks and philosophies; or just to try our luck at anything that seems promising, with a vision of better things to come.

Finally New Moon in Scorpio, daily transits for November 6, 2010

*******

The New Moon happens at 3.51 pm, Eastern Daylight Saving Time, Australia. Click here to view the November 6 New Moon Horoscope

The Sun and Moon will be on 13°40′ of Scorpio, this Water Sign’s second Decan (10 degrees) of Pisces, more flexible and inclusive than the first Decan.

The New Moon in Eastern Australia coincides with a turn of the zodiacal wheel, the Rising Sign, at the exact time of the New Moon, passing from Pisces to Aries, from ends to beginnings. So there are three aspects emphasizing a new start in this Chart: the New Moon, of course, the change in the Ascending Sign, and the fact that this is Aries, the archetypal first!

Every year, in October or November, we experience a New Moon in Scorpio, symbolically the start of a new astrological year for all Scorpios. In this case, this will be more so for those Scorpio born individuals whose birthday is today, November 6, or in the next two to three days. And also everyone who has the Moon, the Ascendant or other planets (the closer ones to Earth especially) around the Scorpio degree occupied by the Sun and Moon at New Moon.

For those who celebrate their birthday now, the invigorating and stimulating effect of this New Moon will extend not just to the end of this lunar month but cover the whole year ahead. Only an accurate delineation of your Solar Return, the exact time every year the Sun returns to the same degree and minute he was occupying at birth, can tell you how close your birthday will be to this New Moon, what aspects were exact at the time, and what Signs were rising or setting for you. The Solar Return is in fact your true birthday, based on astronomical facts rather than a date on the calendar. It may fall on your birthday, the day before or after, it depends. Knowing the time of birth, at least approximately, would be necessary to calculate your Solar Return.

With the New Moon close to your birthday you can expect life to present new openings, to offer novel opportunities, to push you into new directions and a new start, especially if the old life has not fulfilled your expectations so far.

There is an undeniable new impetus at the New Moon, fresh energy and dreams, but also a degree of naivety and unpreparedness. Life beacons, but we may still be in the dark about our direction.

At New Moon the Moon start waxing, slowly separating from the Sun and beginning to reflect his light back to us on Earth. But at first the waxing is kept secret because the Moon has not gathered yet enough light to illumine clearly our goals and the path ahead. So these are tentative beginnings, that may even look as false starts sometimes. You are being encouraged in the right direction, toward more light and more awareness, but it will take some time to see the tangible results of this change.

For everyone else the Scorpio New Moon is always a wonderful opportunity to assess our priorities and be very ruthless at ridding our life of all the things that have passed their use by date, all the things, as well as feelings, relationships, jobs, etc., that fail to pass the following test: are you a vital part of my life? Are you emotionally enriching my life or not? Am I true to myself by continuing with my old ways or I should bravely venture to the depth of  aloneness or intimacy, both rather scary places for most?

The only way to decide which area of your life the New Moon will influence and if it will be forming any transits with your Birth planets,  you need to know the basic layout of your Birth Chart.

Days of transition, Sun~Mercury~Venus’ conjunction, Mars entering Sagittarius, October 27/28, 2010, and beyond

Venus in Scorpio is about mid-point between the Sun and Mercury, conjunct Mercury on October 26 and the Sun on October 29. After the intense emotionalism of the Full Moon in Aries, the encounter of Venus with both Mercury and the Sun should bring some calm to our lives in the next few days. Venus seeks conciliation and engenders attraction and loving feelings. These are great days to be creative, to visit art galleries, read what pleases us, use our imagination to write and communicate, interact with like minded people, talk lovingly to one another.

The conjunction Sun-Venus represents also a turning point in the Venus’s cycle, the end of the Evening Star phase and beginning of the Morning Star, as she will reappear in mid November in the pre-dawn skies. The coming phase will be more outgoing but also less self-reflective. For a more in depth interpretation of this Venus’ transition, please read my Venus’ long Transit through Scorpio’s post.

Another sign of change is Mars leaving Scorpio and transiting Sagittarius from October 28 to December 8. If you are a Sagittarius or this Fire Sign is highlighted in your Birth Chart this period could be one during which you could successfully defend or upheld your principles, what you believe in.  Also time for resolute action, for courage and initiative; or, negatively, antagonism, nerves, restlessness and impulsiveness, when excessive optimism could become a problem.

The other Fire Signs  too (Aries and Leo) may be fired up by this transit. They are the ones who could be well advised to use some discretion, in order not to appear self-righteous and arrogant, and thus attract opposition.

The other Mutable Signs (Gemini, Virgo, Pisces) will also receive a heavier dose of Mars’ energy during the same period, stimulating and exciting but calling for some restraint too.

The aftermath of the Aries~Taurus Full Moon, daily transits for October 24 2010 and beyond

What difference a day makes

So, it was Full Moon yesterday. No one should have missed out. Some potent feelings were around and the strong desire to share them. It  felt positive to me, but it might as well have been too full on for other people. Sharing the experience we have at a Full Moon can give us a glimpse of what we really mean by Astrology, the living reality of it.

Life was too full and interesting for me to find time to post! You probably didn’t have much time to search the net either.

Today we may start to integrate the experience of the Full Moon, always a revelation of sort, a climax, a realization that should encourage us on the inward journey the darkening fortnight is now bringing.

The symbol I see on the cusp Aries-Taurus (29°32′) is that of a seed, a concept, an idea, an inspiration beginning to take concrete form, grounding itself in the fertile soil of our everyday reality. The Moon in Aries is like a spark, a stimulus toward action but still in need of a vehicle through which to manifest itself. Taurus represents just such a vehicle. The capacity for our ideas to find a suitable form and become reality have been part of the realization and vision contained in this special Full Moon.

More of this kind, I mean Full Moons on the cusp between Signs, occurred this year already, see the September Full Moon with the Moon at Aries 0°15. And more will follow, see the November 22 Full Moon on the cusp Taurus-Gemini and the Total Lunar Eclipse Full Moon on December 21, on the cusp Sagittarius-Capricorn.

On October 23 the Sun, just eleven hours after the Full Moon, also entered a new Sign, on the opposite side of the wheel, from Libra to Scorpio.

There are now five bodies in Scorpio, Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars, plus the asteroid Vesta (or Hestia). This passage promises eventful times for all people who have Scorpio highlighted in their Birth Charts, and to a lesser degree also Taurus, Leo and Aquarius (the other Fixed Signs), as well as Cancer and Pisces (the other Water Signs).

Mars will leave Scorpio soon, on October 28. Hopefully we have used his energy wisely, in the last one and half months, to cut those ties that bind, to be strong in our feelings and personal truths, more honest with ourselves and others. Mars should now leave us with the desire to move on from here, to bigger and better things, from a deeply personal level to an impersonal and far-reaching one (Sagittarius Mars, October 28 to December 8).

Mercury, who entered the Sign on October 21, will exit on November 9. The Scorpio Mercury’s period is not for the faint-hearted. We need to accept levels of thoughts that we usually avoid because the depth scares us or because of the need to face those sides of ourselves we find difficult to own. Hopefully we will not be too tempted to dump our negative thoughts onto others, becoming judgmental and cynical. This is an ideal period for any type of research or in depth study, for investigating occult phenomena and the working of the unconscious in our daily lives. On October 25 Mercury will become conjunct to Venus retrograding in Scorpio, an aspect full of poetry and creativity, when deep emotions can find adequate expression in words, and like minds meet.

On a more material level the encounter of Mercury, the God of Business and Trade, and Venus, the Goddess of Wealth and Pleasure, could encourage successful business transactions, buying and selling in general.

The Sun will be in Scorpio between October 23 and November 22. I am preparing at present some general readings describing the effect over the coming year of the transiting Moon on your birthday or Solar Return day. You will be able to access this information each day of the year.

Venus is slowly retracing her steps toward Libra, re-entering Libra on November 8, then turning Direct on November 19 and re-entering Scorpio on November 28, until early January 2011!

As I said in my previous posts on the long transit and retrogradation of Venus in Scorpio the Venus in Scorpio period, and even more so when Venus is retrograde in this Sign, is one when we will feel like seriously assessing  or re-assessing our value system, sifting the wheat from the chaff, as the Bible says. What is fundamentally important will take precedence over momentary fads or fleeting desires. We are now on our way to discover, or more likely re-discover those activities, people and relationships which really count in our life and are vital to our emotional survival. We need to go through the confrontations and emotional turmoil of Scorpio in order to liberate ourselves from what of the past does not serve anymore as soul-enhancing role, to then enter the lighter, more adventurous and future oriented Sign of Sagittarius.

Finally Vesta entered Scorpio on October 9 and will leave this Sign on December 5. Vesta is presently conjunct Venus, for a couple of days, making the present time also ideal to honor the sacredness of our love life, our family and more intimate relationships. Vesta in fact was in ancient times the Goddess and she is today the archetype of the sacredness of heart and family, the one whose role is to keep the family and heart’s sacred flame for ever alive.

These different time-frames show how Scorpio in particular and all the Fixed and Water Signs in general are being stimulated mentally (Mercury), physically (Mars), emotionally (Venus), energetically  (Sun) and spiritually (Vesta) by the present transits.

Today, October 24, the Moon is transiting Taurus, stimulating the Scorpio energy via opposition. Yesterday the Moon opposed the Sun and Mercury, today is Venus and Vesta’s turn and tomorrow will be Mars. Avoiding the astrological cliche that oppositions are simply aspects of antagonism and strife (that, of course, they can often be), these transits are here to show us the other side of any issue or question, the point of view that can complete and enrich our, rather than be unproductively biased against it.

Walking the line between Uranus and Pluto, Aquarius and Scorpio, transits for October 17 2010

Today the Moon in Aquarius is making contact with many planetary energies, Venus and Mars in Scorpio, Uranus in Pisces, Pluto in Capricorn, and also with the Lunar Nodes in Capricorn and Cancer. This is a strange mix, stressing the polarity of passion (Scorpio-Pluto) and dispassion (Aquarius-Uranus), total emotional involvement and detachment.

This could be a great Moon energy to attempt to understand and verbalize those feelings which we usually keep private and unexplored, often dominating our unconscious reactions without being recognized by the conscious mind.

Aquarius is an apt vehicle for the passing on and exchange of knowledge. This Fixed Air Sign shows sincere interest in understanding what’s going on, and it is focused enough to penetrate, at least at the intellectual level, beyond the surface of things, where lays the realm of Scorpio and Pluto. If used creatively these transits could help us to articulate well those flights of the imagination and subtle emotions that often remain inchoate and inaccessible; ideal for creative writing, psychological investigations and high and deep conversations, bridging the gap between rational and irrational.

Of course these disparate energies could also be extremely difficult to reconcile, because the function of Air and Water in Astrology are fundamentally different, Air providing clarity, intellectual understanding and communication, while Water deals with emotions, non verbal communication and all intuitive connections.

Crescent Moon in Sagittarius and Mars in aspect to Pluto, daily transits for October 11, 2010

The Moon enters the Fire Sign of  Sagittarius at 9.08 am:, beginning also her Crescent Phase today. Feeling more adventurous and optimistic, and a bit restless, we can now start working in earnest on those projects we envisioned at the recent New Moon in Libra.

The major aspect today though is the semi-square (45°) of Mars in Scorpio to Pluto in Capricorn, not a mild aspect.  The semi-squares are always important points of adjustment in the synodical dance of two planets. There would be only 2 semi-squares from Mars to Pluto during the two years long Mars cycle. Mars’ function is to energize everything he enters in contact with, to animate and activate. Pluto, the slower moving of the two, is the one that has been activated. Now the function of Pluto is to show us the simple fact that nothing is permanent, that everything changes and everything has an end. Pluto happens to free us from attachment by showing what really sustain us in moments of crisis or loss. Through Pluto we learn how to be born anew in every situation, how to transform neglected inner resources into real power. Positively Mars could activate the above, empowering us according to our aims and temperament.

Negatively Mars may stir up repressed anger from the depth of our Plutonian psyche. We may do things as if compelled by unknown and difficult to control urges.  The generally overt energy of Mars may become covert and manipulative. Collectively it could result in more than average acts of violence or aggressive control, but also salutary eruptions that will help to clear the air in many cases. It would depend very much on the areas of your Natal Chart Mars and Pluto are transiting at present and also on the original relationship of these two planets in your Horoscope.

Waxing Moon in Scorpio, with Venus and Mars, daily transits for October 10 2010

The Moon, established in Scorpio since yesterday, will be conjunct Venus and Mars today, the two still very close to each other.

If you are lucky enough to enjoy clear skies tonight (it has been raining non stop in our region) the first Crescent, a beautiful slither of a Moon, will form a magical triangle with Venus and Mars in the Tropical or Seasonal Sign of Scorpio but against the backdrop of the Scales Constellation (Mars is conjunct the alpha of this stars’ formation). Navigate to my CURRENT NIGHT SHOWS PAGE to view a picture of this event.

The Moon always works as a medium of the energies of the further away celestial bodies, galvanizing those energies and thus manifesting them in our lives and psyches.  So today the Moon will be the catalyst of some powerful Scorpio stuff, in an ambivalent landscape, implying some duality or confrontation or longing for wholeness and unity, the energies of Mars and Venus still mingling from their recent close encounter now led closer together by the rays of the Moon moving from one to the other. The intensity, the depth, the knowing that goes beyond words or pretensions or wishful thinking.

The Birthday people more likely to keenly feel this lunar transit are Scorpio born between November 5 and 12; Taurus, May 3 to 11; Leo, August 5 to 13; Aquarius, February 2 to 9.

And also anyone with Moon, Ascendant (or one of the other Angles) and Planets (especially Mercury, Venus and Mars) between the 12 and 19 degrees of the above Fixed Signs; or the same degrees of the other two Water Signs, Cancer and Pisces.

This is a bit of a special day for all of us really. The intensity is there for all to plug into, the emotional depth too and the focus on very personal matters. The way each of us will experience it would depend on many factors: the area of our Natal Chart the Moon and Venus-Mars are transiting at present, and also the place and aspects of our Natal Moon, Venus and Mars. Are they in harmony with this transit, are their energies compatible? How you think they would fair today or during the long transit of Venus in Scorpio?

The Moon’s transits today is giving us perhaps a taste of things to come.

The Moon with Spica and Jupiter Neptune contact, daily transits for October 9 2010

Today the Moon raises in the East with the Star Spica of Constellation Virgo (Celestial Longitude: 23° 59′ Tropical Libra). This star represents the gift of the ancient fertility goddess to humankind, the ear of corn that nourishes us, the bounty of nature. I consider Spica an Ecological Star of our new age, a reminder of the service and respect we owe nature for her gifts of life.

Just after sunrise the Moon enters Scorpio, still invisible but waxing,.  The Moon will become visible just in time for her rendezvous (conjunction) with Venus and Mars tomorrow, October 10.

Late last night and very early in the day the Moon forms harmonious angles (120°) with Neptune and Chiron, aspects of inspiration, healing and spirituality. To confirm that the tone of this Lunar Day, retro Jupiter has today reached the distance of 30° from Neptune (semi-sextile), a spiritually expanding aspect, seeking somewhat the unattainable.

Libra New Moon, Mercury-Saturn, Venus Stationary: daily transits for October 8, 2010

The day begins with a Libra New Moon just on sunrise (for details see Moon widgets on the right sidebar). This is a great symbol for all Libra who celebrate their birthday today and in the next couple of days.

Your birthday itself represents, every year, the start of a new solar cycle for you. The fact that it is also a New Moon, in your own Sign and conjunct your Natal Sun, makes the symbol more powerful. Important turning points are on your plate this year, but it may take a little while before you realize it, because the New Moon is also still a dark Moon, a promise of future developments rather than the conscious start of something. Also people with the Moon, any of the Angles and Planets around the degree occupied by the New Moon, 14° 23′, in Libra as well as the other Cardinal Signs (Aries, Cancer and Capricorn), could be in for some fresh experiences, the nature of these experiences depending on the character of the Planet or Angle involved.

Mercury has moved ahead now of the 90 degrees angle form Pluto in Capricorn (exact on October 5) and is today forming a conjunction with Saturn, on 08° 34′ Libra. Conjunctions are always tricky because the functions signified by the two planets cannot work anymore independently for a while, but they are forced to work together, if compatible or not. Both Mercury and Saturn are strong in Libra (Saturn is said to be exalted in the Sign of justice and Mercury is in sympathy with all the Air Signs, champions of communication and ideas). Together here they should produce a good outcome, helping the restless mind, embodied by Mercury, to become more steady and adult-like (Saturn). Good day to think more seriously, get involved into important conversations or study, find common ground, settle disputes, sign important contracts or leases, and get involved in all transactions of a practical and business nature. Great also to plan for the future in very practical, down to earth ways.

The negative side of this Mercury-Saturn coin is negativity itself.  In certain cases and circumstances the aspect could trigger a depressive mood, for a short while, also mental blocks and inhibition in expression. Too much planning ahead and fear of failure could stop you from achieving your goals. Birthdays in direct line of contact with this transit are some Libra (October 1/4), Aries (March 28/31), Cancer (June 29 to July 2) and Capricorn (December 29 to January 1).

Last but not least Venus is turning Stationary Retrograde today. If interested in the retrogradation of Venus and her ongoing conjunction with Mars, please surf to my latest posts on the subject: VENUS’ LONG TRANSIT THROUGH SCORPIO
